Miss Weekends is a young co-ed convict serving
"short time" for a minor felony drug conviction. We join her in
the dormitory-style women's county prison lockup where the inmates
spend their days watching television, playing cards, painting toenails,
fixing each other's hair, and fussing and fighting the way any group
of women might - except they do it behind bars.
Monologues, aboriginal dreamtime prose poems, and
short videos are woven through the play, offering further perspectives
on the plays theme of lost and stolen freedoms.
On January 27, 2004 Thunderbird Productions produced
a workshop reading of Miss Weekends at the Living
Room on Ludlow Street in New York City.
